Feminine Postpartum Wisdom

These are our TOP 5 suggestions for nourishing women after giving birth in the 4th trimester.

1. Retreat: This is the most important time that mother and new baby are to be held in a space, surrounded by those that are nourishing to her soul- physically and emotionally. For some, this may be just their spouse. For others, it may be their mother or aunt or postpartum doula. Visitors should be kept to a minimum, if any.

2. Rest: During the 4th trimester, all responsibilities that can be delegated, should. A birthing mother's body just went through the training and act of running several marathons. It takes on average 4 hours to complete a marathon. If you had a 40+ hour labor and delivery, then that would be equivalent to 10 marathons. It is time to REST. If not, then this deficit in healing can be there through the motherhood journey. So delegate all that you can for those first 40-days.

3. Support: Remember in suggestion #1 where we stated that new mamas should be surrounded by those that are nourishing? This is the time that should be filled with family, friends, or other forms of support that are there to HELP with feeding, hydrating, laundry, and taking care of the rest of the family only. NO entertaining or hosting should be expected.

4. Warm: To allow the body the time to focus on healing and not digesting, prioritizing warm foods that are easy to digest (think roasted vegetables, sustaining soups, traditional comfort foods) and warm drinks (herbal and caffeine-free teas or room-temperature + filtered water). Keep mom warm by providing her with cozy socks and extra blankets nearby.

5. Connect: This 4th Trimester period of time allows a postpartum mother's body to be able to connect with her baby, focus the energy on mom + baby and not the "to-do" list, for mother to connect with her own body to be able to listen to the subtle cues of needs that her body may be craving - Are you hungry, thirsty, need emotional support?

We know what it is like mothering in this generation. The demands on mothers are extensive, but there are ways to make "baby" steps in the right direction for healing on your journey.

100% must if.

The first few months of a babies life are going to be filled with lots of diaper changes 👶 + feedings 🥛 + sleep 💤.

If your baby is not a master in the world of eating efficiently without:

✅ taking in any air

✅spilling of milk out sides of 👄

✅choking or gagging during a feed

✅taking some convincing to start sucking

✅painful 😖 latch

✅diagnosed or suspect a lip, buccal, or tongue 👅 tie...

Then your little one may tremendously benefit from seeing a pediatric certified chiropractor.

What does a baby chiropractor do to help these ☝️ issues? Majority of the babies we personally see in our clinic in Aledo, Texas that are referred in from their pediatrician, lactation consultant or pediatric dentist have a combination of a few things going on. 👉

1. Hypertonic muscles that are tight and restrictive in proper motion in areas with

2. Hypotonia in areas of muscles that may be a little weak to be able to sustain a proper seal/latch

3. Missing primitive reflexes that help initiate the brain to know how to use their oral muscles and tissue properly.

Our clinic is the only clinic in the State of Texas that houses 🏡 a pediatric certified chiropractor 👩‍⚕️ with Diplomate certifications through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association + International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. 👏🥰

Our clinic is able to offer not only pediatric chiropractic, but also craniosacral therapy, myofascial release, orofacial myofunctional therapy, and primitive reflex integration. Babies that are having complex situations deserve someone on their health care team that is trained to handle those cases + think outside of the box 📦 to tailor a treatment plan as unique as your baby.

That’s what we are here for. Together, we can help. Give us a call or send a DM if you are in need of feeding help. 💜

Cowboy football game day trail mix

Adjustments.jpeg

Our son, Jarrett, wanted to make a snack for game day to watch the Cowboys with his dad and brother. We had some gluten free Chex cereal that had a recipe on the back and Jarrett was inspired. It needed to be a little tweaked to meet the profile for our family, but were able to do so very easily!

This recipe does contain peanuts and almonds, but if your family doesn’t like almonds, then go for pistachios or another tree nut that is a fav. Peanut free? Then sunflower seeds would be really yummy. Regular chocolate chips would be an ok replacement as well, but for our family, we try to minimize dairy and avoid gluten. Try making this recipe with your little ones soon and let us know how it goes! It was a low-mess time in the kitchen with a big taste and satisfaction reward. Jarrett says it is, “mom and kid-approved for football game day”. :)
