Newborn infants depend upon the primitive reflexes for feeding such as the rooting reflex, transverse tongue reflex, sucking reflex and more.
These reflexes are developed in utero and are considered the pre-wiring of the brain. The primitive reflexes should be present at certain time frames and then integrated into voluntary movements later.
