#1 sciatica pain stretch.

SCIATICA RELIEF.

We talked about in our post yesterday how sciatica can be a literal pain in the butt. One of our favorite stretches to introduce a mom or dad experiencing sciatica pain is the reclining pigeon pose.

πŸ”· Step 1: Lie on your back with knees bent and both feet firmly on the ground.

πŸ”Ά Step 2: Whichever side that you are experiencing the sciatica pain, bring that leg up into a 90Β° angle and rest your ankle just below your knee of the other leg still on the ground.

πŸ”· Step 3: With the leg that is still on the ground, take both of your hands and wrap around that hamstring and pull your knee close to your chest. You should feel a slight stretch in your piriformis muscle of the leg that is up and crossed over.

πŸ”Ά Step 4: to achieve an even deeper stretch you can take your elbow or one of your hands and gently push the knee that is bent slightly away from you while bringing your legs closer to your chest.

πŸ”· Step 5: Hold stretch for 30 seconds - 1 minute and repeat on other side, if needed. Repeat 4-5x a day for optimal results.

πŸ’Ž Why should you consider doing this stretch if you are experiencing sciatica pain? The piriformis muscle can become tightened and caused compression and irritation of the sciatic nerve. πŸ€© This simple reclining pigeon pose stretch can help gently stretch that piriformis muscle that’s taking some of the pressure off the sciatic nerve = less pain and ability to move again!
