Autumn Baked Pears plated and devoured within seconds.
Ingredients:
—> 4 firm pears
—> 2 tablespoons coconut oil, unrefined
—> 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
—> 1/4 tsp cinnamon
—> 1/4 tsp ground ginger
—> 1/4 tsp carob powder
—> Pinch of sea salt
This is a picture shot right after I applied the first round of “glaze” before popping them in the oven.
Recipe:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Slice the pears in half and core.
- Melt the coconut oil on the stovetop or in the microwave.
- Combine the melted coconut oil + lemon juice + cinnamon + ginger + carob powder + sea salt. Brush over each pear.
- Place the leads cut side up in a baking dish and bake for a total of 30 minutes, or until soft. Keep brushing the pears every 10 minutes they are in the oven.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes.
- Devour!
Round 2 of brushing on the topping
I added some actual carob baking chips in the middle the last 5-10 minutes of baking time for the boys. They contained soy lecithin and that is not 100% AIP so I decided to not put it on mine. The next night I put a dollop of homemade coconut whipped cream in each and that was amazing too. If pears are not available or you don’t prefer pears, then try with apples. The baking time may take a little longer though. These store well in the refrigerator for several days.
Straight out of the oven and about to be in my son’s belly.
There are numerous desserts out there that use wholesome ingredients and are considered Paleo, Whole 30 or even Keto. The problem is, I like to look and drool over the ones that are complex and require a lot of steps like pies, cookies, or cupcakes. I mean, that is my food choice of preference. However, my body knows it deserves and wants better. This journey of health and wellness is not a quick sprint, it is a marathon. A marathon of detoxing toxins out of your body that we have been piling on over the years whether we free-willingly know it or not. One thing I know that I can control is what I put in my mouth. Trust me, it isn’t easy at all. Especially when you are running a business, being a wife to a pure Texan and a mom to busy, full of life little boys. I know you know exactly what I mean when I say my schedule is full. Therefore, when I came across a dessert that seemed simple and easy, I had to try it and boy was I thankful I did. These Autumn Baked Pears are surprisingly easy to make with common staple ingredients and with its warmth, makes your belly feel happy and full. I totally took one up to our clinic at The Chiropractic Place for Mommy and Me in Aledo, Texas each day during lunch as my treat. I had numerous pregnant and postpartum moms that were able to sniff out the cinnamon and ginger and commented at how yummy they smelled. If I wasn’t selfish with my food, I may have let them try a bite. ;)
Bon appetit with wholesome wellness.
