Kinesio Taping®
Have you taken notice of that brightly-colored tape stripping across your favorite college football athlete, Olympian or seen it on a fellow CrossFitter?
Kinesio Taping® is more than just a fad, it’s an important tool we have discovered that can help athletes with rehabilitation and injury prevention.
The versatile kinesio tape has a stretchable quality that does a great job of mimicking human skin. Athletes swear by the benefits they receive for reducing muscle fatigue and swelling. When this tape is applied to the body in a specific technique, the tape is thought to be able to help enhance blood circulation while aiding in drainage of lymphatic fluid.
Kinesio Taping®, can provide extra support to the muscles helping to relieve muscle injuries, inflammation conditions such as plantar fasciitis, tendinitis and muscle spams and even patellar tracking disorders.
For example, if an athlete were to sprain their ankle, the standard method of treating this injury would be to R.I.C.E. (rest, ice, compress and elevate) mostly compressing using an A.C.E. bandage. The A.C.E. bandage is great for helping to provide the compressive force, but it can limit the ankle’s full range of motion. When an area of the body is restricted for too long, the associated muscles can become weakened due to the lack of proper motion. Kinesio Taping® provides the compressive, support needed while still allowing full range of motion.
